Forrest Lake Townhomes: an urban retreat lifestyle

The Forrest Lake Townhomes neighborhood, located in the midst of the hustle and bustle of near northwest Houston, is an urban residential retreat nestled around a placid lake with tall pine and oak trees dotting its landscape. A wooden footbridge which traverses the lake provides a picturesque walking path for residents to feed turtles and enjoy nature.

Built in 1974, this serene park-like community of 243 individually owned townhomes is situated on 22 acres on Lumberdale Road off of West Tidwell. It consists of mostly homeowners with a few renters and is currently 92% occupied with many long-term residents.

Forrest Lake was so named because it had previously been a small dairy farm owned or operated by a Mr. Forrest. In the early days, Tidwell was a country two-lane road from Antoine to its intersection with Lumberdale, the entrance to Forrest Lake. Tidwell was heavily wooded and had tall pine trees along its south side all the way to what is now the Cole Creek Bridge. The lake may have started as a farm tank but developer Irby Simkins enlarged and landscaped it.

Residents of Forrest Lake Townhomes range from retirees to young professionals who want convenient access to major thoroughfares and freedom from the usual exterior upkeep worries of a home. With quick access to the U.S. 290 freeway, the 610 Loop and the Beltway, residents are a short distance from the Galleria, Willowbrook Mall, Memorial City, and the Pinemont Park and Ride. Their location in the near northwest also affords them a short commute to downtown.

The Townhome community is professionally managed, and the maintenance of house exteriors, roofs and facilities are all done by an experienced in-house staff. Security is provided by Texas Certified Security Guards and supported by a surveillance camera system. The Board of Directors elected by homeowners places emphasis on security, the enhancement of property values and the provision of a quiet and pleasing environment. Recreational facilities such as an Olympic size pool, tennis courts and a large clubhouse are available to all residents. Over the years the careful planning and devoted work of residents and employees have made the Forrest Lake neighborhood an affordable and attractive place to live.
